Interior Designers Shop for Show-Stopping Pieces
The Rex Mirror is another show-stopper, with its sleek design and expert craftsmanship. But the piece that is beyond one-of-a-kind is the Apollo Space Lounge. Built to the same scale as NASA’s Apollo 11 space capsule and clad in polished steel panels, it is a true work of art. It is adaptable to many uses, from a private VIP seating zone to a workspace meeting capsule or an indoor/outdoor dining pod. In the following paragraphs, I’ll share some photos and highlights of my favorite pieces and share more about the company. [Read: Coastal Kitchen Ideas for a Beachy Look]
Discover the House of Handcrafted Luxury
Tim Oulton boasts decades of experience in traditional handcrafting and a family heritage in the antique business. Their commitment to quality, durability, and time-honored techniques show in every piece. From the buttoned-up sofas and chairs to the beds and footstools. Every detail of the Timothy Oulton Collection is made in-house using only the finest materials and hand tools. For example, each Westminster Button 3-seater sofa requires 131 buttons to be tufted by hand and 1,041 studs to be nailed one by one.
The Simple Surroundings of Customer Satisfaction
The brand’s innovation is evident with striking designs that blend classic and modern elements to create elevated furnishings. The company’s diverse range of customers love its beautiful craftsmanship, quality materials, and creativity. As Oulton notes, “We design our furniture to please ourselves, really. I know that, if we are happy with the results, odds are people will find it appealing too. (Le Sieur, Y. (n.d.). Behind the Brand – Timothy Oulton. Nobleman Magazine. Retrieved April 23, 2023.)
That said, the brand’s commitment to quality extends beyond just the furniture itself. The customer experience is also a top priority, with knowledgeable staff and exceptional service to help visitors find the perfect pieces for their homes. [Read: Welcoming Front Door Ideas]

Leather Furnishings Designed with Sustainability
Timothy Oulton takes leather craftsmanship seriously, and it shows in their exquisite finishes. Each piece is hand-finished with translucent dyes, creating a rich and authentic look. The brand sources leather from around the world, and each hide is carefully finished by hand. Some are even tumbled by hand or polished with lamb’s wool, ensuring a soft and luxurious feel. What sets Timothy Oulton apart is their commitment to sustainability, including having their own tannery in Brazil. Their unique water management system uses fewer chemicals, and the tanning process uses 85% less water, creating sustainably processed leather with close to zero impact.
Timothy Oulton’s Metal Finishes Craftsmanship
But it’s not just their furniture that showcases their craftsmanship. Timothy Oulton loves to highlight the craftsman’s touch on their metal finishes too, from visible welding marks to rugged hand-distressing to intensive hand-polishing. One of their proprietary metal finishes, called Spitfire, was inspired by the famous fighter plane’s construction. It requires a five-stage process to create worn, distressed metal. The Driftwood and Acrylic Collection
Their driftwood and acrylic collection is equally impressive, with salvaged driftwood collected by hand from riverbeds and shores repurposed into stunning pieces of furniture. The wood is dried, arranged in a mold, and liquid acrylic is poured, then cut, sanded, and polished. Acrylic and wood interaction is highly sensitive, requiring the finished piece to be stabilized for several weeks to ensure optimum symbiosis.
Timothy Oulton’s Handmade Lighting Collection
Passion for Luxury Design
Timothy Oulton’s vintage-inspired lighting collection is made by hand. The company uses various glass techniques such as hand-blown glass, precision-cut optical, extruded, and cast glass. Each with unique textures reminiscent of tree bark and frozen water. Their signature Rex range is made using K9 optical glass, which behaves like crystal but is lighter in weight.
This allows them to create large, show-stopping installations with excellent dispersion qualities that diffuse light for a softer, mellower glow. The Tiffany pendant is another show-stopper, taking a whole week to create as each of its 179 glass drops is hand-blown and hand-polished by the masters in the brand’s glass workshop.
Big, Beautiful Furniture
Although the company’s founder, Timothy Oulton, passed away suddenly in 2022, his passion and commitment to excellence remain the driving force behind the brand. Today, his son, Oliver Oulton, carries on his father’s legacy as Creative Director. Oliver continues to push the boundaries of design and craftsmanship while staying true to the brand’s heritage and values.
With Oliver’s leadership, the brand continues the work of his father with ventures such as Timothy Oulton Studio, The Chelsea Pig by Timothy Oulton, The Bearded Rose by Timothy Oulton, and The Boot. These spaces showcase the brand’s unique design aesthetic and offer customers an immersive experience that celebrates furniture-making art.
