Meditation Space
Meditation is the new trend in relaxation, and Biet Simkin has been at its forefront for years. She’s known as “the David Bowie” of meditation with her edgy style that merges mindfulness into artistry—and she helps 1 Hotels promote wellness. You can view the Manhattan skyline in the background in a ten-minute meditation. A second meditation, Heart Opening Meditation, is available here. She uses ancient techniques and will “prepare you for whatever awaits you in your day or puts you to bed in the deep comfort of love.” I hope you will take a little time to listen – I am finding her work beautiful and transformative. Entryway Ideas
Make a grand entrance by adding 1 Hotel’s entryway and lobby decor ideas to your home.
1
1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge Entryway & Lobby
Incorporate elements of 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge’s entryway and lobby into your home in various ways. One way to do this is by adding a unique staircase feature. Installation artist Rachel Mica Weiss created “Unbounded,” a 6,000-pound installation made of obsidian rock boulders wrapped with hand-dyed rope. Creating an impressive staircase can be a beautiful focal point when design elements play well with surrounding materials and decor.
Contemporary Wall Art
In addition to the stairs, 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge also features many other art pieces by local artists, including Uhuru Design (furniture). The long list of talented artisans continues with Bien Hecho (woodworking shop), Jarrod Beck (recycled rubber installation), and Harrison Green (living wall, landscape design).
And both Danielle Trofe Design (lampshades & planters) and Fernando Mastrangelo (furnishings) websites are a must-view! An artist’s piece can add a sense of sophistication to any room, and they are a great way to support local artists.
Home Organization & Functional Art
Decluttering and infusing your home with functional art is eco-luxury.
2
Declutter Your Home
It’s oh-so-nice to come home to a place that feels like a sanctuary – where you can relax and recharge. That’s why more and more homeowners are reducing their home’s clutter and are embracing a pared-down design aesthetic.
Wherever possible, create spaciousness with higher ceilings and use warm and neutral shades on surfaces just like 1 Hotel. A monochromatic canvas gives you an opportunity to discover new artists or to rejuvenate your existing collection. Hotel decor and the artists behind the art can spark inspiration for achieving a similar look in your home. Incorporating these ideas wherever possible will help you create an inviting and luxurious space in your home.

Hotel Decoration Ideas
A well-designed hotel entrance is a welcoming journey of discovery for guests, so it goes at 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge. As a matter of fact, I am confident that the design of your home entrance can be equally alluring.
Living Wall Indoor
Back to 1 Hotel – I was immediately struck by the abundance of plants throughout the property. The concept of biophilic design is in full bloom here, and the living wall is undoubtedly the focal point. A lovely variety of plant types cover the wall, and the neutral furnishings, finishes, and oversized windows blur the lines between the outdoors and the hotel’s interior. In this setting, nature takes on a charismatic role and is so incredibly inviting.
The ambiance is truly one of peace and relaxation, and I can’t wait to visit again. And so, my mission for this blog is to give you behind-the-scenes design tips so you can feel the same way about your own home.
Bring Home the Green
If you’re looking for a quick dose of inspiration without making a large purchase, visit your local nursery and bring some greenery home. Here’s an excerpt from an interview with Harrison Green, landscape designer, and 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge.
“Understanding your apartment and lifestyle is the first step towards buying the correct plant. Be realistic with how much light you get and how often you are willing to care for the plant. Next, succulents are popular with apartment dwellers. Succulents definitely need water, just not as much, or as often, as a ‘leafy green’ type of houseplant. Succulents also require bright sunlight; there is no way around this one! (1 Hotels)”

Soothing Scent of Nature
From the moment I stepped into the lobby of 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge, I was enveloped in a warm, woodsy scent. It was pleasant and inviting and set the tone for my entire stay. The smell is called Kindling, and it was developed specifically for 1 Hotel by master perfumer Caroline Fabrigas, CEO of Scent Marketing Inc.
According to Fabrigas, the scent deepens “your connection with nature.” And indeed, it has a cozy, comforting feeling that makes it the perfect scent for a hotel. Whether I was relaxing in my room or enjoying a meal in the hotel restaurant, the smell of Kindling always made me feel at home.

Mod Daily FAQs
As a designer, I have met with soooo many clients that have rushed to make home decor purchases and regret the choices. Why? Because they did not develop a plan to decorate their room or space. When we buy on impulse, we try to relieve the irritation of being out of sync with our surroundings, but it just makes us feel worse. In contrast, you will enjoy many benefits when decorating your home with a well-thought-out design process. Biophilic design = alignment, balance, and clarity.
The primary bedroom or main bedroom is the largest and most attractive bedroom in the house, according to most interior designers. House Beautiful shares the following excerpt from HGTV: “HGTV recognizes that language matters and we made the conscious decision to use more inclusive terms in our content,” HGTV tells House Beautiful. The network’s shows— including favorites like Fixer to Fabulous, Flip or Flop, and Good Bones—now use terms like “primary” and “main” when referring to the largest bedroom and bathroom in a home.
The Harvard Gazette’s, What the Nose Knows, is a fascinating read about the inextricable link between scent the brain’s anatomy and memory. Colleen Walsh, a Harvard staff writer delves into harnessing the “evocative power of smell” by businesses and at home.
Modern energy-efficient windows and advances in lighting design reduce the need for artificial lighting during daylight hours. A home’s design and climate determine how to incorporate daylighting. Windows should be sized and positioned according to cardinal directions, not on the street-side appearance. For example:
South-facing: When properly shaded, south-facing windows allow most winter sunlight into the house but little direct sunlight during the summer.
North-facing: There is little glare and almost no unwanted heat gain through north-facing windows.
East / West facing: While east and west-facing windows promote daylight penetration in the morning and evening, they are less solar-heated in the winter and admit a lot of heat during the summer.
New Home Construction: Think about daylighting when building a new house to make it more energy-efficient. You may also want to incorporate passive solar home design techniques to take advantage of the sun’s rays. (Energy.gov)
