Since Yun Chuan and Xin Bao arrived, the energy at the Zoo has been electric. Visitors are pouring in to see the new pandas, and it’s no wonder. As the Vice President of Conservation and Science said, “It’s a happy day here at the San Diego Zoo. The pandas are settled in great. Event Descriptions

1. Free – Giant Panda Timed Tickets: Start your day right by grabbing a free Giant Panda Timed Ticket when you arrive at the Zoo.
   • • Find QR codes on signs throughout the Zoo, scan one to pick your preferred time, and head to the Timed Ticket line at Panda Ridge when it’s your turn.
     • Alternatively, you can request a Giant Panda Timed Ticket at any ticket booth when purchasing your admission. If you need assistance, the Admissions Booth staff is happy to help. [Create a Mediation Garden at Home]
     • Keep in mind that timed tickets are available only on the day of your visit and are offered on a first-come, first-served basis until all are distributed.
2. Free – Standby Line: You can join the standby line at Panda Ridge anytime from 9:30 a.m. until the giant pandas leave the habitat or the Zoo closes, whichever comes first—no ticket required. Please note that wait times may vary, and there is no guarantee that you will be admitted.
3. Admission Fee – Early Morning with Pandas Walking Tour: Enhance your Zoo experience with our exclusive 60-minute Early Morning with Pandas Walking Tour. This tour, led by an expert guide, offers special access to view the giant pandas before the Zoo opens to the general public.
   1. • Please note that this tour requires an additional fee and is not included with general admission. Reservations are necessary and can be made in advance online or by calling (619) 718-3000.
      • IMPORTANT NOTE: Please adhere to safety restrictions, including wearing flat-heeled shoes.

Yun Chuan (Pointed Nose) and Xin Bao

Let’s get to know them better. Yun Chuan is a 5-year-old male panda with a pointed nose, which gives him a unique look. Xin Bao is a 4-year-old female panda with a round face and fluffy ears – she’s a panda perfection. Both are already stealing hearts with their playful behavior and charming personalities. And while they are cute, they are here for a bigger purpose as part of a global conservation effort for their species.

Home Sweet Home – Panda Habitat

Yun Chuan and Xin Bao now live in the newly renovated Panda Ridge habitat. Pandas are often called ‘bamboo bears’ in Chinese literature due to their diet. We’ve gone all out to create a space that looks and feels like the bamboo forests of their native China. Their diet is as authentic as it gets – mainly bamboo, which is what pandas eat in the wild, with our team making sure they are well fed with fresh bamboo and even wowotou, a traditional Chinese bun.

Wild Population Conservation

The San Diego Zoo is all about providing visitors with a memorable experience and is committed to conserving giant pandas and their habitat.

They work closely with Chinese colleagues to meet the pandas’ needs and support global conservation efforts to sustain panda populations. And who knows, if Yun Chuan and Xin Bao have a family in the future, their cubs will go back to China to contribute to even bigger conservation projects.

The Panda World

Giant panda cubs are born tiny and helpless, relying entirely on their mothers for care. As they grow, they become skilled climbers and are often found in trees. They are fascinating communicators, using scent marks and vocalizations to communicate with each other. It’s these behaviors that make them so fun to watch.

Join the experts for an exclusive early-morning adventure with our new giant pandas, starting at $92 per person. Admission to the Zoo is separate and required.

This 60-minute walking tour, guided by a knowledgeable Zoo Educator, offers a unique opportunity to explore various habitats, including special access to view red pandas and giant pandas. This tour also highlights the role of panda diplomacy in fostering international conservation efforts.

You’ll learn fascinating details about our bears, with a special emphasis on giant panda care, breeding, and conservation efforts at the San Diego Zoo.

Giant Panda Cub – Bamboo Forests, Bamboo Species

Please note that a maximum of two children per adult is allowed, and all participants, regardless of age, must have a ticket to see the giant pandas and panda cubs. Reservations are required and can be changed up to three days before the tour.

Cancellations made more than three days in advance are subject to a $25 fee, while those made within three days are non-refundable. The tour runs in all weather conditions, and the Zoo reserves the right to cancel or adjust the tour due to weather, animal health, or safety concerns.

If rescheduling is necessary, the Zoo will work with you to find a suitable date. For guests requiring a wheelchair, please get in touch with the Zoo after booking so they can make the necessary arrangements.
