Home Remodeling is the Shortcut to Your Future Lifestyle
Each new home remodeling project is an opportunity for a fresh start. Generally speaking, home improvements can be the shortcut to your future lifestyle. So, if you would like to transform your bath into a stylish coastal powder room continue reading.
Small Bath Remodel Idea #1: Direct Powder Room Traffic Away from Common Areas
Challenge: Having a kitchen that is a breezeway into the powder room leaves no privacy at all. By redirecting traffic flow, the home remodeling project will help improve privacy.
Solution: Because the bathroom door was visible from the kitchen, we converted a portion of the hallway into a large kitchen pantry. Next, we added a new wall and coastal bathroom décor for a California vibe.
Rather than recommending a coat of paint, we suggested using textured wallcovering on the hall walls leading to the coastal powder bathroom. With this welcome change the It’s just so welcoming and Zen. What a difference!
Small Bath Remodel Idea #3: Bathroom Vanity with Sink Designed for the New Door Swing
Challenge: The existing oversized vanity isn’t designed to accommodate the new door swing.
Solution: Design a wall-mounted vanity with sink that allows for the new door swing.
Granted, the vanity is much smaller than it was previously. However, during the project planning, we confirmed that our clients did not use the storage.
Small Bath Remodel Idea #4 for a Modern Coastal Bathroom
Challenge: The toilet and a small window are disappointing focal points.
Solution: We used a floor-to-ceiling feature that was striking enough to draw attention away from the toilet and window.
Textured Tile Evokes the Feeling of Sun-Kissed Surf
A uniquely textured tile evokes the feeling of sun-kissed surf and transforms a dated space into a modern coastal bathroom.
The rawness of the tile was contrasted with the refinement of the polished vessel sink, faucet, and sconces. As a result, this curated collection completes the now stunning coastal powder room.
Design Tip: Consider adding a trim piece along the edge of thick tiles like the one shown here. You can buy matching trim from the tile manufacturer or use Schluter®-Profiles.
Unique Coastal Décor Elements for a Small Bath Remodel
We chose a golden bronze vessel sink that mimics the horizontal lines of the wall tile. Interestingly enough, the sink has been handcrafted using sand casting methods.
The gleaming finish also reflects light into the room and harmonizes with the lacquered burnished brass finish on the lavatory faucet and the antique-burnished brass finish on the light sconces.
Why We Recommended a Wall Mounted Faucet
Choosing a wall mounted faucet requires careful plumbing consideration. Working with your plumber or general contractor to ensure this is possible is highly recommended.
As you can see in the project photographs, the vanity dimensions are specific to the door swing and the scale of the vessel sink. As a result of installing a wall-mounted faucet, we were able to keep the vanity dimensions to a minimum, allowing us to install a larger and functional piece of art (aka sink).
California Coastal Aesthetic and a Beautiful Small Bath Remodel
The collection of products, including the gorgeous, blue-hued Oceano quartzite vanity top, has helped create a cohesive California aesthetic.
Small Bath Remodel Idea #5: Wall Sconces Are So Much More Than Light Fixtures
Challenge: Find damp rated wall sconces narrow enough to flank the vanity mirror and include a complementary finish.
Finding the perfect wall sconce with the ideal dimensions, finish, and rating for use in a damp setting was time-consuming. On top of the long list of requirements, our clients craved fixtures with alabaster stone.
Our team managed to locate the ideal pair of sconces. These jewel-like wall sconces met every requirement, and they are beautiful. The Covet Short Clip, designed by Kelly Wearstler, is a perfect example of art and function merging seamlessly.
Small Bath Remodel Idea #6: Walls & Flooring Finishes Small Coastal Powder Room
Challenge: Select wall coverings and flooring to lend to a quintessential California coastal aesthetic.
Solution: We removed the outdated wainscotting, baseboards, and tile flooring. Moving on, the common areas now feature flooring with a rich, dark hue. Furthermore, we maintained continuity throughout the entire first floor by installing it in the hall and powder room. Ultimately, the hand-scraped WPC flooring offers durability that is ideal for bathrooms.
Next, we selected a vinyl grasscloth wallcovering in a shade of blue that works well with the wall tile. Not only does it compliment the trim, it also lends a sense of continuity throughout the space. Additionally, this particular baseboard brings the structural elements together. And the finishing touches that are imbued with coastal décor, include framed art painted by the homeowner.
One-of-kind finishing touches infuse your home with your style making it a true reflection of your personality.
