Design a Beautiful #WFH Cloffice

Pre-Covid, only about one in five people worked from home. Today, just over 70% say they do all or most of the time. With that trend continuing, let’s take a look at the newest iteration of the home office – the cloffice.

Cloffice Defined

A cloffice is basically what it sounds like: a cross between an office and a closet. While that may conjure up an image of trying to work in a cramped, windowless box, do not despair. It can be any small space – a stairway landing, a corner nook, an area in your bedroom – that is transformed into a private and personal place to work. Designed to help you separate your work from your domestic life, “The best cloffices blend clever space-saving solutions with inspiring décor to create a special place in your home where you can be productive and content.” Gigi Day

Not everyone is lucky enough to have an extra room, such as a guest bedroom, den, or basement, to convert into a home office, so techniques for being creative are quickly emerging. When space is limited, it’s important to make use of every available inch.

The Ingredients of a Great Cloffice

Here are a few essential design tips to maximize a small space:

Cloffice Furniture

You’ll need a desk or tabletop surface. Built-ins and desks with their own storage areas are a great solution. For a chair, comfort comes first, but consider something on wheels that can be easily moved. For very tight spaces, a stool that fits under a desk will help save space.

Cloffice Organization

Floating shelves above the desk, desktop organizers, and a free-standing set of drawers that slides underneath a desk are perfect for small office organization and storage. Custom-built cabinets help create a tidy look. A wireless hub provides flexibility, allowing you to work from a laptop on a desk, chair, or table, and will help reduce unsightly clutter.

Cloffice Lighting

Access to natural light is key, so an office space near a window or under a skylight is ideal. For spaces without windows, artificial light sources that replicate natural light are a perfect solution. Hanging lights help save on limited work surfaces.

Cloffice Decor

Decorate your space with your favorite colors, or wallpaper that pops. Add personal items such as photographs and wall art. Use greenery and plants for a biophilic touch.

For those not fortunate enough to have a dedicated room, you can create your own cloffice with moveable partitions, portable screens, privacy dividers, and curtains hung from the ceiling or a rod.

“A great #WFH office is one of the best investments you can make in your home. It will increase your home’s aesthetic appeal as well as its value. With the right design – and designer – you will be able to recoup as much as 85 – 100% of its cost.”
